Anu Pillay holds a Masters degree in conflict transformation and gender and is also trained as a counselor and life coach. She works mainly in the African region has been involved with addressing gender-based violence in Southern Africa for over 25 years. She initiated and presented the first African study on femicide at the Beijing Conference in 1995 and co-edited a book on women in the aftermath of conflict in 2001. She is currently working on a PhD doing a 3 country study on women’s participation in peacebuilding covering South Africa, India and Northern Ireland. Anu is also a mother of 4 adult children and a grandmother of 2 whom she claims have been her most significant teachers.
