Abeer Muhammad is a development professional that has worked with a number of governmental and intergovernmental and non governmental organizations on matters of political participation, democracy building, gender initiatives, civil society development and human rights.


Co- Founder of recently formed Iraqi Women for Peace Coalition working to establish the Culture of Peace and Tolerance in Iraq and regionally through sharing lesson learned from post conflict countries and promoting Peace and Human Rights.


She is currently project coordinator for" The Canadian Human Rights Fund for Iraq" which through the funding of the Canadian International Development Agency tries to encourage Iraqi /Regional Human Rights organizations to address human rights issues in Iraq and contribute to a society where Rights are respected and Human Dignity is maintained to all people .


In 2005 -2006, she managed the Political Participation Fund for British Council in Iraq funded by UK Department for International Development. The fund aimed at encouraging political participation among Iraqi population and particularly among women and disfranchised groups. In her capacity as a national manager to the fund she has worked with several Iraqi NGOs and Iraqi political figures including MPs and ministries such as the State Ministry for Civil Society and State Ministry for Women Affairs in providing mentoring and advise and supporting CSOs engagement in political participation and election monitoring and voter education .


Until 2005 she was the grant specialist for the Local Governance Project's Democracy and Human Rights Fund Scheme funded by the United States Agency For International Development.


Ms. Mohammed retains a distinguished expertise and understanding for Iraq's complex social and political context. She has been engaged in the process of development and the evolution of new civil organizations in Iraq post 2003.


Before that she was a lecturer at the University of Baghdad, Department Of Physical Education, and Language Section. She is an M.A holder in Translation and Communication.


Ms Abeer also serves on the board of the Danish Institute for Human Rights, regional office of Iraq "Basra Center" and contributes to the center program /policy design.
